Preity Zinta was born on 31 January 1975 in Rohru, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. His father Durganand Zinta was an officer in the Indian Army. When she was 13, her father died in a car accident and her mother, Neelprabha, suffered serious injuries that left her bedridden for two years.
Preity Zinta described this tragic accident as a turning point in her life due to which she soon became sensible and serious. Preity Zinta has two brothers, Dipankar and Manish, one elder and one younger. Dipankar is an officer in the Indian Army and Manish lives in California.

Preity Zinta started his career as an ad model. In 1996, Preity Zinta was featured in a Perk’s chocolate advertisement.
Later Preity Zinta got a chance to work with director Shekhar Kapur in the film ‘Tara Rum Pum Pum’ opposite Hrithik Roshan, but the shooting of the film was cancelled. In 1998, Preity Zinta started his film career with the film ‘Dil Se..’, in which he played a role of only 20 minutes of screen time.
After this, Preity Zinta started his acting career by giving one after the other hit films like ‘Kya Kehna’, ‘Soldier’, ‘Sangharsh’ etc. Apart from Hindi films, Preity Zinta has also worked in regional films; in Telugu, English, and Punjabi languages. Between 1998 and 1999, Preity Zinta worked in 2 Telugu films ‘Premante Idera’ and ‘Raja Kumarudu’.
