The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on 22 July 2022 conducted a search operation at various places in West Bengal over alleged irregularities in the recruitment of teachers and non-teaching staff in government schools.
Searches were conducted at at least 13 places in the state, including the residence of state Industries and Commerce Minister Partha Chatterjee. During the raid, the ED recovered bundles worth Rs 2,000.
500 denomination notes of around Rs 20 crore were recovered from the residential premises of Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide of Partha Chatterjee.
This amount is suspected to be the money received from the recruitment scam in West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) and West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBPEB). The ED has also allegedly recovered several expensive phones from Arpita Mukherjee.
